Paul Blasi is a lampworking glass artist originally from Southern CA.who has made a home in Sedona, AZ with his wife and new son. Lampworking is the term used to describe the use of a torch to heat and manipulate glass tubes and
rods. His work is represented in galleries in Arizona and he can also be found participating in art festivals. Professionally, Paul taught lampworking in the glass studios at Mesa Arts Center and Cavecreek Glassworks.
Paul Blasi’s beautifully hand crafted glass art is the result of more than 13 years of daily practice, simple experimentation and study under leading glass workers, such as Roger Parramore and Milon Townsend. His fascination for glass
extends from the playful interaction with molten glass to the technical challenge of manipulating and shaping the glass with purpose and precision.
In 1996, Paul fired up a torch for the first time and began to melt borosilicate glass tubes and color rods. Over time and aside from the many cuts and burns, he realized he was not just having fun, but was experiencing something deeper.
He discovered with glass, a partnership. He was learning its temperament and unique physical properties when it’s heated upwards of 2000°f. His appreciation for glass and amazement at its potential continues to grow as he has found glass an ideal medium to express in form his creativity. His goal therefore, is to perfect his technical skills to match this challenge and to breath fresh life in an age old material.
He is currently interested in exploring a mixed media approach, particularly electroformed copper on glass. Thank you for your interest.
